If she freaks out and says she was thinking more on the lines of $35, maybe you're not the person for this task. You can negotiate it in a professional way, like "How does $100 (or whatever) sound?" See what she says. I'm not a businesswoman, but I would say charge a flat rate of whatever you think is fair vs. I'm not saying this is what YOU should charge, but my hubb had no idea what he had signed up for! It was a lot of work, but he is a perfectionist. I'll tell you what: My husband said that given the amount of labor he put into it, including scanning the photos and programming the music to go with it, he said $350 was acutally not so outrageous. Cheap-O) I said no way, and my husband is a self-proclaimed computer genius/nerd so he did it himself. He wanted $350 to put the montage together. hence my ? about taking pictures or not)įor my wedding the photographer referred me to a videographer (which we didn't hire) who was willing to put together a video montage of our childhood and couple photos to play during the reception. (My first thought was that she wanted you to take pics at the birthday and make a montage memory of the birthday celebration, but then, thinking about it, I figured she wanted to give you pics and you make a montage of his life to show at the party. Also, if you want to get into this business as a side project for you, you might think about putting your name out there, and charging a bit less in exchange for the "advertising" youʻll be doing. Use a service like Tribute to create a personalized video montage. I would (can you tell Iʻm just thinking as I go? ) probably ask how many photos it would be (assuming you arenʻt taking the photos, that adds a lot to it) and how long, and then figure it by the hours it takes for you to do it, along with the materials cost to you, if any. The only way to improve upon a traditional birthday card is to make it interactive. If weʻre talking a 5 minute montage, thatʻs very different than a montage with hundreds of photos that runs for 30 minutes or something. I think it would depend on how many pictures and such. Iʻve never had someone do one for me, I would probably put together something myself instead, so Iʻm not sure what Iʻd be willing to pay. I found these sites, and it looks like they vary in experience and area, so that can make a big difference too: My dh does video and editing and stuff as a side business, and his rates vary according to who and how much and how long, etc. It sounds like youʻre not really friends with the mom, youʻre just acquaintances? How many photos are you talking? Are you going to be there, taking the photos, or is she giving you photos and youʻre going to make a montage for them to display at the birthday?
